Phantom In Paradise
A 9 track ambient techno album (47m ) — released April 30th 2007 on Editions Mego
Philipp Quehenberger was born in Innsbruck in 1977, grew up in Tirol, Seattle (US) and Newcastle. He discovered his love for electronic music in his fathers studio and started playing the piano and fooling around with synthesizers. In 1994 he started performing alone, abusing his collection of toy instruments and wearing strange costumes. At the same time, the "Original Devil Duo" with singer Otto "Horror" Horrwatt and the first release appeared. After moving to Vienna Philipp Quehenberger kept his head above water by giving piano lessons..
Based on a wondrous forwardness, the prevailing instrumental tracks neglect predictability and never lose their mystery. They open psychedelic trap doors and windows, bunching imagination and closeness. Quehenberger has taken the raw energy of his ecstatic live performances and crafted a diamond of a release. From the catchy riffs of "Loner Goner", to the polyrhythmic UR-like "Varad" and the scorching twisted keyboard distortion of "Verdammst!".
